Getting there is the easy half
Etihad Arena sits on Yas Island, about half an hour from downtown Abu Dhabi and rather less from the airport. Crossing to the island and following the signs is not a difficult journey, and audiences arrive across a ninety-minute window, so the roads absorb them comfortably.
Then the show ends, and a full arena tries to leave through a few exits onto two roads off an island. That takes about twenty minutes to become a problem and rather longer to stop being one.
Almost everything worth knowing about an event night here follows from that asymmetry.
Getting to Etihad Arena
Driving yourself. Event parking is signposted and the venue publishes a parking map for each event — worth opening the day before rather than in the queue. Arrive earlier than feels necessary on a sold-out night; the last twenty minutes before doors is when the approach roads tighten.
Taxi or ride-hailing. Both serve Yas Island normally on the way in. This is the straightforward option and for a quiet weekday show it is the right one.
Booked chauffeur. Sensible when the evening has something attached to it — a dinner reservation afterwards, a group arriving together from a hotel, guests you would rather not ask to find parking.

The island is closer to the airport than it is to the city centre, which surprises most people arriving for a show. Add meaningfully to both figures on a Grand Prix weekend or a sold-out arena night.
Leaving after the show
This is the question people actually have, and it deserves a straight answer. Ask anyone searching for concert transportation in Abu Dhabi what they really want to know, and it is this one — not how to reach the venue, but how to get away from it.
When the arena empties, several thousand people want a car within the same few minutes. If you drove, you are in a car park that is trying to become a road. If you open an app, you are competing with everyone still inside the building — which is exactly when the price multiplier appears and the nearest available car turns out to be back on the mainland.
Three things help, in order of how much:
- Arrange the car before you go. A chauffeur booked in advance is parked and waiting at a point you agreed on, at a fare agreed before you set off. Nothing about that changes because the show sold out.
- Do not leave with the crowd. The twenty minutes after the encore are the worst twenty minutes. A drink somewhere on Yas Bay and a 40-minute delay will often get you home sooner than joining the exit immediately.
- Know where your pick-up point is before the show, not after. On big nights it moves further from the doors than you would expect, and finding that out at 11 pm with no signal is unpleasant.
Two ways to book it. A point-to-point transfer from Abu Dhabi Downtown to Yas Island runs from AED 150 one way, tolls and parking already inside the fare — sensible if you only need the ride out. An hourly booking, from AED 130 an hour on a four-hour reservation, keeps the same car and chauffeur with you through the show rather than dispatching it again afterwards.
The second is what we usually suggest for an event evening, for the reason this whole page is about: the difficulty was never getting there.

Grand Prix week is its own category
During Formula 1 week, Etihad Arena effectively becomes part of the Grand Prix experience. The circuit, Yasalam concerts, hotels, restaurants and the arena all operate at the same time, making Yas Island one of the busiest places in the UAE.
The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs 3–6 December at Yas Marina Circuit — about nine hundred metres from Etihad Arena, on the same island, on the same roads. Worth keeping the two venues apart while you plan the evenings: the Yasalam after-race concerts are at Etihad Park, the open-air venue across from the circuit, while Etihad Arena is the indoor hall beside Yas Bay. Different gates, different crowds, and on some nights both of them empty at once.
Andrea Bocelli plays Etihad Arena on 2 December as part of Yasalam Classics — the Wednesday evening before the circuit opens.
If you are travelling for that weekend, the thing to fix early is not the ticket. It is the airport transfer and the cars for the days around it. By late November there is very little left uncommitted on the island.
The short version
For a quiet weekday show, take a taxi and enjoy yourself — we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. For a sold-out night, Grand Prix week, or any evening with a plan attached to the other end of it, arrange the car before you go. The journey there was never the hard part.
If you're visiting Abu Dhabi for a sold-out event, Formula 1 weekend or a special evening out, arranging your transport in advance removes the most stressful part of the experience. Airport transfers, hotel pickups and waiting chauffeur service mean your evening starts and ends exactly as planned.
